If you have already bought any of the main Resident Evil games since the release of Resident Evil 7, you’ll be happy to hear that you can now upgrade them for free, and get the next-gen version on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.

The Resident Evil series got a lot of attention at today’s Capcom Showcase. First, the developers showed off the first story trailer for Shadows of Rose, the new campaign expansion for Resident Evil Village that will be coming out soon.

Then, we got some new information about Resident Evil 4 and a quick look at how this new Capcom remake will be played. Soon after that, the show ended with a huge surprise for next-gen fans of the series. Capcom announced that Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, and Resident Evil 7 can now be upgraded to next-gen for free.

Should I update automatically?

If you want to play these amazing Capcom games on next-generation consoles, you might be lucky to already have 3D Audio, Ray-Tracing, and higher frame rates. When it comes to all of these games, all of these new features could make a big difference in creating a scary, realistic atmosphere.

Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 3 Remake have already gotten updates that make them better, but Resident Evil 2 Remake will soon get a new update that will improve the game’s graphics and raise the minimum system requirements.

So, if you don’t think your PC is powerful enough for the new Resident Evil 2 Remake, you might not want to let it automatically update.

Even though Resident Evil 7 got a big update for PlayStation 5 that made it better, it won’t get a PSVR 2 version like its sequel did. So VR fans will probably have to play RE7 on the first PSVR unless Sony makes the PSVR 2 backward compatible.
