Sonic is once again back in business, and new challenges await the renowned hedgehog. It’s time for the real deal of gaming – Sonic will shift from the more common 2D world to an open-world environment. It will certainly take a lot of skill to get the hedgehog going through a vast land.

Sonic is one of the most famous characters in gaming history. The speedy hedgehog has been available in more than 90 games. By comparison, Super Mario has been present in about 200 gaming titles.

Sonic Frontiers releases near Christmas 2022

We’ll have more than a year to wait until Sonic Frontiers – A New Threat will become available to grab and play. But even so, we expect it to be worth the wait.

Feel free to watch the trailer:

The description says it all:

Accelerate to new heights and experience the thrill of high velocity open-zone freedom like never before. Battle powerful enemies as you speed through the Starfall Islands – landscapes brimming with dense forests, overflowing waterfalls, sizzling deserts and more!

It’s interesting to see that the Nintendo Switch console keeps receiving a lot of credit from game developers. Plenty of games initially available for PC and the usual consoles had also been made available for Nintendo Switch.

As one of the users commenting on the trailer said: Sonic in an open-world game will either be awful or absolutely incredible. We’re eager to find out.

The history of the Sonic hedgehog goes back in 1991 when Sega developed the first game that had to do with the famous character. That means a history of three decades, and perhaps many more will come. Sonic games are very successful even today, and that can only mean that more Sonic-related games will become available in the near future.
