The firm has announced through its official blog that it would begin enforcing stricter policies on the sharing of passwords in four more areas.

The business said on its blog that difficulties have arisen as a result of previous features, such as allowing users to have several profiles and stream on different devices with a single account. This has resulted in 100 million families sharing accounts. The corporation claims this has reduced its capacity to reinvest in new content including TV series, movies, and intellectual properties. While Netflix didn’t explicitly state this in its blog post, it stands to reason that the firm has lost a significant amount of money due to people giving away their Netflix login information to their friends and relatives.

The corporation has been working on a fix for the problem and has been conducting preliminary tests across Latin America. Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain will be the first countries to get these updates. Access to your Netflix account may now be restricted to certain devices or locations starting today in these territories. As a rule, you’ll have to choose one specific place as the main one, and this will guarantee that everyone located there will continue to enjoy continuous service. Account access may be monitored with the help of a manager.

Those who have been sharing an account with others and are now ready to switch to their own will also benefit from the new profile transfer service, which will provide the new account holder quick and simple access to the previous user’s individualized recommendations, viewing history, and other account data. While Netflix doesn’t provide specifics, there is a way for frequent travelers to access their account when they get at their destination and set up a new TV or device. Yet it is inconvenient in that it necessitates a check-in at the user’s principal location once every 31 days.

If you just want to add people to an existing account and they don’t live in the main household, you can do so for an additional fee of CAD$7.99 per month per person in Canada, NZD$7.99 per month per person in New Zealand, EUR3.99 per month per person in Portugal, and EUR5.99 per month per person in Spain. Netflix has promised to keep an eye on the changes and hear user feedback. The social media backlash suggests that many people are unhappy with the new policies.
