YouTube provides an update on the status of its ongoing fight against spam, bots, and abusive language in its most recent blog post. The company also introduces new and updated technologies to combat these types of problems. YouTube claims in its statement that these are the primary issues of content creators in the modern day, and the company has made addressing them a priority.

Reducing spam and abuse in comments and live chat is an ongoing task, so these updates will be ongoing as we continue to adapt to new trends.

The comment section now has improved spam detection, which is one of the most significant changes. The software development team has put in a lot of effort to enhance automated spam detection, and as a result, they have been successful in removing 1.1 billion spam comments in the first half of this year. However, spammers acquire new tricks, which is why YouTube employs machine-learning models that can learn new tricks and combat spammers more effectively. The same is true for automated detection in the live chat section while live streams are being broadcast.

YouTube is implementing a removal warning as well as timeouts in response to inappropriate comments left by actual human users. The system will issue a warning to users whose comments violate community norms and will remove such comments. If the same person continues to write abusive remarks, that user will be banned for 24 hours. Testing done internally demonstrates that the current techniques are successful in reducing the number of repeat offenders.

Another modification that is relatively minor but significantly affects the creators. Now, when a video is uploaded, the system will provide a general estimate of when it will finish processing and be available in its full resolution, regardless of whether that resolution is 1080p, 2160p, or 4320p.
