New Windows 11 Problem Affects PC Game Performance, But There’s A Workaround

Recently, Windows 11 version 22H2 became available for use on PCs. Since the update was initially released, a number of reports have surfaced claiming that it has caused performance issues when gaming. It was initially unclear what was causing the issue; however, Microsoft has subsequently confirmed that the issues are due to the use of Windows 11 version 22H2 on affected devices.

Through its health dashboard, Microsoft provided an explanation of what’s going on. On Windows 11, version 22H2, it’s possible that certain games and applications could have performance that is worse than planned or will stutter. A number of games and applications are causing an issue by mistakenly activating GPU performance debugging features that are not intended for use by end users.

To safeguard your upgrade experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on devices affected by this issue from being offered or installing Windows 11, version 22H2. If your organization is using Update Compliance, the safeguard IDs are 41766570 and 41990091

Microsoft has placed a compatibility hold on the devices that are being affected so that personal computers do not encounter any problems. Because of the hold, an upgrade to the most recent version of Windows 11 cannot be made available to those devices, nor can the update be installed on them.

If you are already using Windows 11, version 22H2, and you are having this problem, you may be able to fix it by ensuring that all of your games and apps that are related to gaming are updated to the most recent version that is currently available. If you are uncertain how to update the games and apps that you have loaded, you will need to contact the creator of such games and apps; however, the majority of games and applications will auto update either through the shop from which they were bought or instantly when they are opened.
