While many of the apps and games present in the Google Play Store are free of charge, others are not. Many people are willing to pay money for the software they like, and the Mountain View-based tech giant has all the interest to help them in the process.

According to The Register, Google is currently testing alternative payment systems in the Play Store for subscriptions, in-app purchases, and more. There is more and more pressure for operators of app stores to give developers various options. The test was revealed to some degree even in March, and it seems to be as versatile as possible.

YOU decide how to pay

The plan is for Google Play users to use their own payment systems rather than the one from Google. We’re guessing that this might mean a variety of payment methods that the users can opt for: PayPal, Revolut, Skrill, and so on.

The program will run in European Economic Area (EEA) countries but not in the UK. Also, countries such as Indonesia, Australia, India, and Japan are included.

Google’s support document said:

This pilot is designed to test offering an alternative billing option next to Google Play’s billing system and to help us explore offering this choice to users. We are looking to gain feedback in different countries and ensure we can maintain a positive user experience. Please see our blog post for more information.

Starting September 1, 2022, developers who meet the below eligibility and requirements may join the pilot.

The Google Play Store has a huge number of users, and it’s clear that it’s in Google’s best interest to try to keep them satisfied. There are over 1 billion people using the official Android marketplace.
