While new information about the upcoming release of Overwatch 2 continues to make its appearance on the internet, Blizzard is already implementing substantial adjustments to the game’s numerous heroes from the game. Following the announcement of a closed beta on March 11, the developer has provided further information on the game’s modifications.

After appearing in the original Overwatch game as an Assault hero, Doomfist was promoted to the Tank class in an effort to bring the hero group closer to a more balanced state.

Game director Aaron Keller confirmed the update during a recent broadcast. Apparently, the update might come with some more changes, such as a minor reduction in damage output.

The class reclassification

During the broadcast, Keller made a comparison between the new Doomfist playstyle and Winston’s. He said: “He basically has a leap that’s similar to a Winston leap.” In addition to the movement improvements, Keller stated that Doomfist is capable of avoiding certain situations and he has more chances to survive during matches.

Leading hero designer Geoff Goodman revealed that Doomfist “deals a lot less damage”. This comes in response to some fans’ concerns that the character would become overpowering. However, Goodman argues that Doomfist is already overpowered and “needs a nerf” to make it more balanced.

So when is the release date?

Even if Blizzard has not announced a clear release date for Overwatch 2, the game’s closed beta will take place in April, indicating that a 2022 release is still on the table. With lots of time to make adjustments to the game before it launches, Overwatch 2 has a good chance of outperforming its predecessor in terms of sales and popularity.
