We all know what’s happening in Ukraine and that many people living there are in need of food, shelter, meds, and so on. And we all know that, unfortunately, those things cost a lot of money in our society. But it’s great that all sorts of companies are trying to help those people out.
Game developers are also joining the effort to help Ukrainians. Epic Games is one of those companies, as the developer behind the popular battle royale game Fortnite made a big announcement. According to The Verge, Epic Games has decided that for two weeks, all of the income generated from the game will be donated as humanitarian aid for those affected by the war in Ukraine.
$36 million were raised
Epic Games has already raised an impressive amount of money for its initiative of offering humanitarian aid to those from Ukraine: $36 million.
Together we’ve already raised $36 million USD for humanitarian relief for Ukraine. The funds will go to @UNICEF, @WFP, @Refugees, @DirectRelief. pic.twitter.com/JQESsGxDVt

There’s no wonder how such a big amount of money was raised in such a short time. We’re talking about one of the most popular online games out there, one that gathers millions of fans from all across the world to compete against each other. Back in 2020, the same Twitter account mentioned earlier announced that Fortnite has surpassed 350 million users worldwide.
In case you’re not aware of what’s Fortnite all about, the most important aspect of the game is that it’s based on battle royale confrontations. Players arrive on a map where they have pretty much all the freedom they want if they’re creative enough.
The video’s description is fair enough:
Fortnite Battle Royale is the FREE 100-player PvP mode in Fortnite. One giant map. A battle bus. Fortnite building skills and destructible environments combined with intense PvP combat. The last one standing wins.
We can only hope that more game developers will join the effort to help the people of Ukraine!
