Will Microsoft Also Buy Sony?

Microsoft has bought Activision Blizzard for $67 Billion, and it is safe to say we are all shocked.

Microsoft has given Xbox Game Pass a lot of titles, which has put Sony to risk. Then the Bethesda acquisition happened, and Microsoft had even more titles up its sleeve. So it was clear that Sony would respond somehow. Sony has then bought  Bluepoint games – the company that made Demon Souls. And then the Housemarque acquisition came true, and everyone was surprised about that.

Will Microsoft buy Sony?

People were surprised when Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard, since Phil Spencer had said that they are actually re-evaluating their relationship with Activision. And after the acquisition happened, there were plenty of comments on social media, and people started to talk. Many believe that Microsoft will also buy Sony, and will become the biggest player in the gaming industry. But is that possible?

Microsoft has a market cap of $2.3T, and Sony has its market cap of $145B. So yes, technically, it is easy for Microsoft to buy Sony. But that’s not going to happen anytime soon, as a company’s market cap is not 100% defined by the cash reserves. Of course, Sony will cost twice the amount of Activision, and that’s a lot of money.

But does Sony want to be bought? We think not, as PlayStation is doing really well, with 5 million units of PS5 ahead of Xbox Series S/X. And let’s not forget we’re still waiting for some new titles to be released, such as Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok, which will put PlayStation on a pedestal for sure.

So we don’t think that Microsoft will buy Sony, so for now, let’s prepare for the new titles.
