PS3 Games Appearing on PS5 Is a Bug and Not Backwards Compatibility

PlayStation fans cannot wait to hear more about backward compatibility for PS3, PS2, and PS1 games. And rumor has it, Sony has in its plan to surprise us with it soon.

PlayStation 5 has made a lot of progress with the hardware, but people were not pleased with the backward compatibility. Rumors on the internet said that the new console would have this feature, but it turns out it wasn’t the case. But recent news shows that is not too late for it.

Recently, we’ve learned that PS3 games are making their appearance on the PS5 store. This made fans go nuts, thinking that PS5 finally has backward compatibility. Dead Or Alive 5, Prince of Persia Sands of Time, and Prince of Persia The Two Thrones were seen there. Of course, they were not able to actually buy the games, but it looked very much believable. Turns out it was just a bug.

A lot of people have seen this bug – but people started wondering why were there prices, as well, because there shouldn’t have appeared there. According to Ryan Biniecki, the prices are being pulled from PS Now, and you shouldn’t give much thought to it – it’s not something specific for PS5 itself.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that we’re not getting backward compatibility at all, but we should keep in mind that it’s not quite possible on a hardware level. This can also be seen from the recent patent. There may be a solution with software, but the games would not be running on PS5 locally.
