The next smartphone from Nothing seems to be getting a proper US release. Carl Pei, co-founder and CEO of Nothing, has announced that the Nothing Phone (2) will be released in the United States in 2023. We can anticipate a smartphone that provides a more premium experience than its predecessor, and its release is expected to occur later this year.
Pei told Inverse that the United States market is his company’s top objective right now for Nothing. He attributes the turnaround to Nothing’s increased stability after tenfold growth in sales in 2022 compared to 2021. So far, the business has released cautiously, testing the waters with smaller products like the Ear 1 earphones before moving on to more ambitious endeavors like the Phone (1). Successful releases allow the firm to progress, allowing it to employ better components and collaborate with new suppliers, ultimately leading to an improved final product.
Though it wasn’t the most powerful cellphone of 2016, the Nothing Phone (1) was the most fascinating alternative to the humdrum smartphones that have become the norm. The little business took a tremendous chance by putting a see-through chassis on their phone, letting customers see what was inside. Additionally, the team employed back LEDs to both spruce up the look and serve a practical purpose by acting as tactile indicators for alerts. After the release of their phone, the business also put significant effort into software development, continuously improving Nothing OS.
If you were hoping for specifics on the Phone (2), you’ll be disappointed; Pei was coy at best, saying simply that the firm was striving to create a more premium product. When asked whether the Phone would compete with Samsung and Google’s top-tier devices, Pei is quick to point out that the Phone (1) was a flagship for Nothing. So, take that with a grain of salt (2). The future phone’s primary focus will be on its software. Unlike the present iteration of Nothing OS, which was contracted out, the future OS for Phone (2) will be developed in-house by a team of around a hundred individuals.
Nothing plans to do more than just release a new phone this year; the company also hopes to increase the number of stores it operates. There is now just one location, in London; nevertheless, Pei does not reveal the location of the chain’s future outlet.
