It was written by Daly and was inspired by his film Miles (2015). Reviews and ticket sales for the picture were around average. Due to its low earnings of $8.5 million against a $10 million budget, A.X.L was a commercial failure. The critical reception is almost universally unfavorable. The audience response across many channels indicates that the films were not successful. The movie only received 26% good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, while having a 5.3/10 rating on IMDB. Better still, at least 63% of Google users have given the film a positive rating.
The film’s last scenes hint to a possible continuation, although it could have easily concluded with those events if the filmmakers had chosen to do so. Given the film’s ‘underperformance’ in terms of both box revenue and critical reception, it seems unlikely that A.X.L. will return for a sequel any time soon, regardless of how the film’s conclusion plays out.

Andric, a scientist at the company “Craine Systems,” developed it to aid the troops of the future. Attack, Exploration, and Logistics is the meaning behind the codename. The military, however, is not fond of the concept of creating such a sophisticated artificial body, since it may be dangerous in the wrong hands. Something goes awry during the construction of A.X.L, causing it to become damaged and abandoned. Some time later, a motorcycle racer called “Miles” comes across the injured A.I. dog and is able to link with the A.X.L by activating its “owner-pairing” technology.
