The Nintendo Switch Online app has made a lot of gamers happy during its short history. But keep using the app by some users will depend on their availability to upgrade the iOS version on their gadgets or buy new ones.

Users having iPhones or iPads running on at least iOS 12 are able to use the Nintendo Switch Online app. But that won’t be the case anymore soon, as they’ll need a newer version of Apple’s operating system for their handsets.

No more support for devices running below iOS 14

According to a new tweet that Nintendo posted on its Japanese account, the Nintendo Switch Online app won’t be available for any iOS devices running on iOS 13 and below. This obviously includes many iPhones and iPads. The move will be implemented at some point this summer, and Nintendo didn’t provide details on when exactly it will happen.

Translated into English, the same tweet says:

Around the summer of 2022, we plan to update the iOS version of the “Nintendo Switch Online” app. This update will change the operating environment to “iOS version 14.0 or later”.

Please note that the app will not be available on devices with “iOS version 13 or earlier”.

This means that we should expect the app to stop working on certain iPhones and iPads in a few months for the worst-case scenario. But it could even happen tomorrow.

Surprisingly or not, Nintendo didn’t offer a motivation behind its decision, but such acts are practically necessary in a world where pretty much everything is going through updates. Furthermore, Apple will release iOS 16 in just a few months, upgrading its operating system for mobile devices even more.

The Cupertino-based giant will also release iPhone 12 at some point in September, and that’s one flagship lineup that all fans of the brand are waiting for!
