‘Heroes of Newerth’ is one of the oldest PC games out there. It was released in 2010 for various PC operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Linux, Macintosh operating systems, and Classic Mac OS.
The guys from S2 Games worked to develop the multiplayer online battle arena action RPG ‘Heroes of Newerth’ using the K2 Engine. The developers announced last year in December that the game is shutting down in June 2022, and now the day has finally come to say goodbye to the legendary title!
June 20, 2022: ‘Heroes of Newerth’ has shut down
The servers of the game were shut down on Monday, June 20, for the final time. After 12 years, the moment has finally come, and there’s nothing to change about it.
If you visit the website of ‘Heroes of Newerth,’ you’ll see a message that reads ‘, “HON IS NOW OFFICIALLY CLOSED. THANK YOU FOR PLAYING!”.

In true fashion to Defense of the Ancient’s gameplay, the player chooses one hero out of dozens upon dozens of heroes to play as and manage. The hero is played in a “match” alongside other players who will all be playing different heroes. It is up to the team to co-ordinate and “push” towards and ultimately destroy the opposing base. Simply which heroes a team is composed of can sway the outcome of a game as tactics are critical from even during the lobby stage of a game.
