While the Ghostbusters movie franchise has been a success at the box office, the same cannot be said about any of the Ghostbusters video games that have been released.
The most recent Activision game, which was released in 2016, received the lowest review score of the year, and there has been no trace of any other game since then. However, things are about to change.
Six years after the original Ghostbusters game was released, developer IllFonic has announced its plans for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, a four-versus-one multiplayer game. Players can take on the role of one of four trainers, each of whom receives advice from a variety of characters from the original cast.
What does the developer have to say about it?
According to the developers, players will “join with other Ghostbusters to chase and trap ghosts in museums, prisons, hotels, and more, and capture the ghosts before they can fully haunt the areas.”
Those who wish to take on the role of the Ghost might need to use some techniques to force the Ghostbusters to back off.
Because Illfonic is developing the game, fans are already used to the the four-versus-one model. This company is most known for their work on Friday the 13th and Predator: Hunting Grounds, two other works with the four-versus-one strategy.
When will it be released?
The latest Ghostbusters game from IllFonic does not have a specific release date as of yet. So far, we just know that it will be released in Q4 of 2022, which means that the game will arrive in time for the Holiday season.
