There’s an increase in the Covid-19 hospitalizations as the country is preparing for the holiday season.
The US has about 118,717 new Covid-19 cases every day. That’s a rise of 40% in comparison to last month. Universities are starting online courses again, Broadway shows are canceled, and professional sports leagues decided to postpone the games.
Only in New York City, the positivity rate of the PCR tests has doubled, rising from 3.9% to 7.8%.
On average, about 1326 deaths are being reported every day – a 12% increase in comparison to last month. Hospitalization has increased a lot, and the country also has to deal with staff shortages. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, there are about 67,306 people that get admitted to the hospital with COVID-19. Intensive care units are at 78% capacity.
Dr. Anthony Fauci has stated in an interview that “The cases are going up. We have an average of about 117,000 cases. We have an increased the percentage of hospitalizations. Deaths are still over a thousand. Then you have, looking over your shoulder, the Omicron variant, which we know, from what’s going on in South Africa and in the UK, is a highly transmissible virus.”
We’re also fighting the Omicron variant, that’s believed to be more contagious but less dangerous. Scientists believe this will become the dominant strain, even if we’re still dealing with Delta. They say that Omicron has a “doubling time of about three days,” and that’s why it will most likely be the dominant variant soon. Let’s take a look at the UK. Based on what we can see, that’s probably what the US will go through soon – an early surge and then chaos.
