Mexican’s boxing star Saul ”Canelo” Alvarez has decided to vacate his world middleweight championship. As a result the interim champion  has been elevated to the full undisputed WBC champion to add to his collection of the WBA & IBF he already respectful holds. With this Golovkin now has one belt in the WBO left to gain to achieve the goal set to win all the 160 pound championships and establish himself as one of the greatest middleweight and undisputed champions in boxing history.
Alvarez and Golovkin have been touted to negotiate a fight for a while, most recently been brought to life after Alvarez brutal one punch knockout of Britain’s Amir Khan, where Alvarez called for the Golovkin fight to happen which seemed to result in this fight becoming inevitable.

It remains to be seen whether this fight does come to fruition, Mexican boxing fans don’t depend on their fighters winning but always giving them the fights they crave, great fights involving great Mexican fighters such as Sanchez/Gomez & De La Hoya facing all the top elite fighters in their prime such as Whittaker, Mosley & Hopkins which he all lost, but of course did not affect his rise to becoming boxing’s number one attraction through the twilight of his career at the biggest stage.

This is why Alvarez in many aspects is forced into this fight if he wants to rise and grow as the attraction they want him to be, the backlash from the public will always be loud unless the fight gets made

Gennady Golovkin has been very vocal about wanting all the belts and that being a priority, it will be interesting to see whether or not he decides to move on easily from the Alvarez mega fight and pursue the final belt he is yet to win in the WBO currently held by Billy Joe Saunders who has been very vocal about wanting that fight over in the UK.
