Now the news has settled that Mikey Garcia (34-0) and a two weight world champion is returning to action on July the 30th in Brooklyn, New York. Mikey will be facing Elio Rojas .  I was wondering which weight he will be concentrating on to claim his 3rd world title in a different weight class. It seems that as expected that Mikey will be concentrating on the lightweight division and to mickey it seems he has his eyes set on a British lightweight world champion. In an interview conducted by Premier Boxing Champions he stated his interest in facing the undefeated WBO world champion Terry Flanagan.  In the same quote he also stated that he intends to move up fairly quickly into the light-welterweight division:

“I do want to fight for the title at 135 – maybe against Terry Flanagan, then fight for a title at 140. I want this one fight before going after a title. I’m ready.”

If the fight can be agreed it would give terry a well needed boost in his profile despite being a world champion. To most mainly the fault lies with Terry’s promoter Frank Warren who struggles to sell tickets, TV interest ect in regards to fights involving Terry. Although as fighter Terry is ultimately brilliant his media profile is barely recognisable due to lack of public interest.

If Garcia and Flanagan gets made would it give terry and more importantly frank warren a boost. 110% yes. We are already seeing the interest with recently made match up of Liam Smith v Canelo Alvarez set for September which will be live on boxnation. This will boost the channels profile and Terry’s  through to new levels in comparison to recent years.

It’s a brilliant match up and i pray it gets made soon.
