Midlands super-middleweight pairing of Lennox Clarke & Jahmaine Smyle have put on the most entertaining fight of the night so far at Cyclone Promotions “All or Nothing” promotion in Leicester. The pair clashed for the vacant IBO continental super-middleweight title, in a fan friendly affair for those in attendance.
Both men went toe to toe over ten rounds of boxing, with Smyle possessing a high work rate whilst Clarke who was involved in his first ten round contest, produced the cleaner work and ability to counter.
Both men were regularly landing and hurting eachother, with Smyle enforcing himself on the younger Clarke up close. However this allowed Clarke to use his inside game which was much crisper and effective.
Clarke was also the more athletic who given time would land more accurately and move before Smyle could respond.
The highlight of the contest came in round eight with Clarke securing a heavy knockdown from a left-right combination which sent Smyle to the canvas.
After ten rounds of boxing, all three scoring judges scored the contest 97-92 in favour of Clarke.
Questions will now surface regarding the career of Jahmaine Smyle, who suffered his third successive defeat following his previous bouts against Darryl Williams. The former English champion has been a great ambassador for Midlands boxing, who spoke about retirement should he be defeated tonight.
