Enzo Maccarinelli: on the verge of a return to the world stage?

On Friday night (10th) at the historic York Hall, London fan favourite Enzo Maccarinelli (41-7) will make his return to the ring after his devastating knockout victory over aging legend Roy Jones jr in December of last year. Enzo will be fighting Ukrainian Dmytro Kucher (23-1-1) for the vacant European cruiserweight title the fight will be shown live on Boxnation.

How Enzo got the shot at this title is quite remarkable considering his involvement for the broadcast was to be with a microphone and not in ring itself. The original opponent for Kucher was to be Ovill McKenzie who had pulled out of the fight 3 weeks ago due to injury.
Enzo in an interview with ESPN “I had a phone call from BoxNation TV asking if I wanted to do the commentary on McKenzie vs. Kucher and then an hour later Frank Warren rang me up and asked if I wanted the fight because McKenzie had pulled out injured. I’m always in the gym training so I thought, why not? If I win this and look good, make a statement, then it’s a step closer to a possible world title shot.”

There is a lot of belief in the camp and Enzo has insisted that he will only be taking fights which serve real purpose to his career. “I’ve not fought since the Roy Jones fight because I didn’t want any easy fights. Nothing interested me and I was only looking for something that got me somewhere and a fight that meant something.” Could Enzo get a title shot somewhere down the line? Most certainly . Has Enzo got the ability to perform on the world stage again ? Yes. Will father time catch up with him soon ? Very Possible.

The card itself has well fancied prospects throughout including Light Heavyweight Tom Baker (13-0), Lightweight Leon Woodstock (6-0), Light Heavyweight Anthony Yarde (6-0), Super-Bantamweight and former Matchroom fighter Lucien Ried (4-0), Lightweight DP Carr (4-0), Super Middleweight Billy Long (4-0), Welterweight Jez Smith (6-0) .

The Card also sees the return of the highly rated super featherweight Mitchel Smith after defeat against George Jupp and hand injuries which everyone hopes have healed up correctly. I’m sure a lot of people would love to see the rematch between Mitchell and George . We also see the estranged son of Chris Eubank SR in Nathanael Wilson (2-0) in a light welterweight contest against Liam Richards (12-23).
