WBC world heavyweight champion Deonay Wilder will finally defend his world title against Luis Ortiz on March the 3rd, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The contest will finally get underway after months of delays due to Luis Ortiz’s recent drug testing issues, which eventually saw the Cuban cleared by the WBC and VADA.
The contest which will be promoted by Lou DiBella on behalf of Premier Boxing Champions will be televised by Showtime in the United States, is arguably one of the most anticipated bouts in the opening quarter of 2018.
The bout will mark Wider’s third appearance at the Barclay’s Center following his previous bout with Bermane Stiverne on November 4th last year, securing a brutal first round knockout against his handpicked mandatory challenger following the then provisional suspension of Ortiz.
Ortiz will be hoping to put behind a turbulent few months behind and get the wheels in motion back in his career with a title opportunity against Wilder.
The winner of the contest could very well land themselves an opportunity against the winner of Anthony Joshua v Joseph Parker in a contest for all the belts available in the heavyweight division, with the proposed clash anticipated set for the March 31st in Cardiff.
