Prospect Charlie Edwards will challenge Johnriel Casimero for the IBF world flyweight title on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook on September 10.
This is the first fight to be announced on the undercard of the huge PPV card.
Charlie Edwards with only a limited pro career so far is taking a huge step up in calibre opponent in Casimero. Casimero is a proven world level fighter at light- flyweight where he was a world champion in 2012 and recently in China defeated Amnat Ruenroeng in a rematch to claim the IBF flyweight crown with a Round 5 KO.
Charlie from Surrey will be having a fight in Berlin this weekend and will enter the ring in September with only 8 pro fights under his belt. Despite this he is in a confident mood “Many people may think this is too early but believe me when I say this, that IBF world title is coming home with me”.
Promoter Eddie Hearn was backing his man to the Hilt “This is a huge gamble for Charlie at this stage in his career but him and the team feel very confident they can beat Casimero. At flyweight, there is only so much experience you can gain and this is a huge opportunity for him to become world champion on home soil in what will be just his ninth fight”.
It is a tough ask for Charlie but he does have physical capabilities to beat the champion . Do I believe he has the boxing ability? I think he does big time.
