Former unified super-bantamweight world champion and former WBA featherweight champion Carl Frampton has formally issued legal proceedings against former promotional and managerial handler Barry McGuigan. Numerous sources within Northern Ireland are stating that Carl Frampton has lodged a High Court writ at the Royal Courts of Justice which hosts the UK high court within Northern Ireland.
The legal action taken by Carl Frampton is not just lodged against Barry McGuigan but also including his wife, Sandra McGuigan and against promotional and managerial company Cyclone Promotions (UK) Ltd, who formally represented Frampton till August 2017. Carls legal actions against the McGuigan’s and Cyclone are in reference to damages for bouts which took place in the United States, United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Details of which bouts and particulars remain undisclosed at time of publication with a preliminary hearing due later this month with both parties embroiled in legal actions against each other. The preliminary hearing will not be examining any of the allegations made by the parties involved but will be determining whether the court actions will be heard in Belfast or London courts of law.
Cyclone Promotions and the McGuigan’s issued their own proceedings against Frampton last November, citing breach of contract by Frampton following his split from the promotional outfit in August following a period of mediation between Frampton and Cyclone Promotions. Frampton is now handled on a managerial basis by MTK Global and promoted by Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren.
