Having expressed a desire to participate in the Rio Games earlier this month, Artur Beterbiev finally gave up trying to qualify for the Olympics in August

Beterbiev wanted to get hold of an Olympic medal, who failed in his two attempts in 2008 in Beijing and 2012 London. He had nevertheless been crowned world amateur champion in 2009 in Milan, Italy.

“After analyzing all situations, we came to the conclusion that the current situation was not favorable”, said promoter Yvon Michel in a statement Wednesday.

Artur is in a strong position being ranked across all the governing body’s. Artur could get a world title shot within 12 months and become a major player in the division.

The ideology of AIBA to allow professional fighters into the Olympic games is still staggering . What is pleasing is the lack of serious interest from professionals. Long may it continue.
