Friday the 29th of July sees the return of Adonis Stevenson in a defence of his WBC light heavyweight world title against Thomas Williams JR. The fight and undercard will be held at the Videotron centre in Quebec city, Canada. The card can be seen live on Spike TV USA, No coverage of the fight has been announced for international viewers to my knowledge.

As I mentioned at the start of this article the headline act is Adonis Stevenson in action against Thomas Williams JR. The fight itself is underwhelming name wise for boxing fans as I believe the vast majority of people are dismayed by Stevenson’s behaviour in being unwilling to face the true elite light heavyweights in the division. Politics have got in the way in making the Sergey Kovalev fight which would have been for all of the belts. Andre Ward is seemingly tied up to face Sergey Kovalev in November, Also civil actions are taking place between the figure head of Roc nation and Al Haymon and some of his associates and have been on-going for 2 years minimum. Artur Beterbiev could be a potential opponent but will be a very hard night’s work for Adonis along with his mandatory Eleider Alvarez. Thomas Williams JR is a fighter who rose to prominence with his last performance against Edwin Rodriguez. Williams won in the second round with two knockdowns and knocked out Edwin in a slug fest for all of the fight despite it only lasting as long as it did, it’s a fight of the year contender for being entertaining .

On the Undercard we have Light heavyweight Eleider Alvarez who is the mandatory challenger to Adonis Stevenson and will be due to face at some point in the upcoming months. His opponent on the 29th will be Robert Berridge after original opponent Chad Dawson withdrew from the fight.

Heavyweight Oscar Rivas unbeaten in 19 fights as a pro will be hoping to continue his winning streak against fellow unbeaten professional Jeremiah Karpency (12-0-1).  Although looking on the face of things there is a huge gulf of class between the two fighters. We may see an upset, we may not but Rivas will want to join the heavyweight mix in the next 12 months.

Also featuring on the bill are Custio Clayton v Silverio Ortiz at light middleweight. Immanuwel Aleem v Demond Nicholson at middleweight, Eric Martel Bahoeli v Avery Gibson at heavyweight, Sebastien Bouchard v Alejandro Herrera at light middleweight.
